Treating cancer needs a multidisciplinary approach constituting Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology.

Finest experts to fight the most difficult cancers.

Treating cancer needs a multidisciplinary approach that constitutes Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology and Surgical Oncology. At Meenakshi Hospital, the Department of Oncology follows the latest methodologies and advanced modalities of treatment to fight cancer.

Tumour Board:

All patients diagnosed with cancer come under a single board of expert oncologists (Radiation, Medical and Surgical) to examine, investigate, diagnose and decide the plan of management in one sitting.

Why do we need a Tumour Board?

  • It reduces the time / cost to meet sequentially multiple specialists
  • Right plan, right treatment at the right time
  • Unnecessary investigations / inadvertent management is avoided
  • It enables a one-stop approach towards diagnosis and treatment
  • Improvement in response rates / survival rates among patients

Other ancillary supporting teams include Surgical Gastroenterology, Pathology, Radiology — diagnostics and intervention, Nuclear Medicine and Emergency Medicine.

We provide a holistic approach towards the treatment of cancer that includes palliative care and pain management. The approach includes evaluation, imaging, treatment planning, treatment and recovery.

Treatments & Procedures

Radiation Oncology is an advanced branch of modern cancer treatment which is painless, incision less and preventive. Often abbreviated as RT, RTx or XRT, it involves the use of ionizing radiation to control or destroy malignant cells without inflicting a cut in the body. Different types of cancers including Breast, Rectal, Lung, Brain and many more are treated under Radiation Oncology.

The department has an advanced linear accelerator, Elekta Platform, and delivers quality treatment with high precision using 3-Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy (3DCRT), Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), IGRT (IMRT with Image Guidance) and Electron Therapy (Total Skin / Total Body / Hemibody).

Treatment planning is done with customized immobilization devices in a dedicated mould room, followed by imaging on wide bore CT scanner. PET scan based RT Planning is done whenever indicated.

Palliative care aims at bringing relief to the suffering of cancer patients and provides best possible quality of life regardless of age, cancer stage and treatment plans. Following cancer diagnosis and treatment, it is normal for patients to experience burdensome physical symptoms and psychological distress from their disease and the cancer treatment itself. Sometimes these physical and psychological symptoms require specialized care in conjunction with primary oncology treatment.

Another important role of palliative care is to assist the ailing patients whose disease has prognosed to the end stage. At this time, the patients suffer from pain and trauma and look for solace, seeking care and counseling.

Our specialized multidisciplinary team benefits the patient and their family throughout the fight against cancer.
