Department of Emergency Medicine

The department of Emergency medicine is a 12 bedded state-of-the-art facility, designed for the convenience of patients who needs immediate assessment and treatment.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Meenakshi Hospital, Tanjore is a 12-bedded state-of-the-art facility designed for patients in need of immediate assessment and treatment. It is also the only tertiary referral centre of its kind in the region. Emergency physicians supported by medical officers and nursing staff run a 24*7 lifesaving unit.

We follow a triage system to prioritize patients based on their needs. The critically ill patients are taken to the resuscitation area, capable of all lifesaving resuscitation procedures at the bedside. With over 1000 cases recorded at the Emergency outpatient department each month, we are adept at handling emergencies of every kind.

All the emergency ambulance transports are done by well-trained emergency technicians under the supervision of emergency physicians. On average, 500 patients are transported and their lives are saved through our ambulance transport every year. There is a large emphasis on cardiac evaluation, neuroscience, toxicology and paediatrics in addition to the focus on other medical and surgical emergencies. We have also placed five first aid centres at various railway stations in and around Tanjore.

The department is a proud recipient of the centre for Excellence award from the Society for Emergency Medicine, India.
